Ergonomic Training Classes

Groups of 25 people

The following classes may be directed to employees, supervisors or managers in your facility. They can be customized for office or physical jobs and will focus on specific job demands. They will include anatomy of the areas involved, proper postures to maintain and positions to avoid. Instructions are given on proper workstation set up for desk-type jobs, as well as body mechanics for physically demanding jobs. Daily work activities are simulated and correct methods are analyzed and practiced. Proper exercise techniques for stretching, strengthening and stabilizing the spine are demonstrated. Classes are active and participation is encouraged.

Office Ergonomics

This class is for people who sit in an office most of the day, because static postures can still cause physical strain. It covers structure and function of the spine and extremities, sprains and strains, methods of preventing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and degenerative back/neck disorders. Workstation design, ergonomic equipment, job tasks and exercise are covered. Classes are customized for each group.

Ergonomics for Physically Demanding Jobs

This class is for people in manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory, construction, housekeeping, facilities or maintenance jobs, who use tools and move or lift objects throughout their day. The class covers structure and function of the spine and extremities, sprains and strains, methods of preventing musculoskeletal disorders such as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and degenerative back/neck disorders. Simulated work activities and exercise are covered. Specific tool usage and job task requirements are discussed. Classes are customized for each group.

Combination Class

This class incorporates content from both “Office Ergonomics” and “Ergonomics for Physically Demanding Jobs”. It is appropriate for individuals with jobs requiring a combination of office and physical work. Classes are customized for each group, depending on the types of work tasks performed throughout a typical workday.

Train the Trainer

Designed for large companies with their own training and development staff. Any of the above classes can be geared toward teaching managers, supervisors, safety coordinators or other professionals how to conduct basic checklist evaluations for their company’s employees. Learn to recognize when a professional ergonomist is needed, and learn to take measurements needed to make recommendations of basic equipment. These key people taught to do basic evaluations will also learn how to recognize when an ergonomic professional is needed for more detailed analysis.

Individual Workstation Assessments

This proactive assessment is a cost effective way for employers to address expressed health concerns, which are often early warning signs of musculoskeletal disorders. Each employee is given an individualized ergonomic work-station assessment including: instruction in proper sitting and standing posture, basic stretches appropriate to that employee’s work tasks, and adapted work-station design, as well as a written summary including further recommendations for equipment modifications as necessary. The benefits for employers include:

.Reduction in risk of work-related injuries

. Reduction in costs from lost work time

. Improved problem solving between management and employees

. Increased productivity and efficiency of workers

. Meeting obligations of regulatory groups.

. Make employees accountable for their own health

Equipment Adjustments (re-checks)

These follow up appointments are extremely effective at reinforcing proper use of equipment and ergonomic principles. Employees with new equipment normally need step-by-step instruction on use of chair adjustments, monitor height, keyboard tray positioning, etc.

Ergonomics 101

A public lecture to a large group of employees (up to 300 participants) to introduce essential ergonomic concepts to everyone in a facility. Emphasis is on anatomy of the spine, proper posture in sitting and standing, how to set up your workstation, the mechanics of movement for office and/or physical jobs and simple exercises..
